Class 4

Welcome to Class Four

Class Four is where the children in Year 5 and Year 6 work together to be the best that they can be. Their learning is carefully created, structured, supported, enhanced and celebrated by Mr. Simpson (Class Teacher) and teaching assistants: Miss Stokes and Mr. Cartwright.

Our Learning this term will be based around the general theme of Freedom.

In History we will learn about the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and the historical figures who worked tirelessly towards achieving the abolition of slavery. We will also learn about the significance of the Battle of Britain during WWII. Through our class Novel "Journey to Jo'Burg" we will also learn about Nelson Mandela and how his sacrifice helped to bring around the end to Apartheid in South Africa. We will use our Geography skills to locate key cities, countries and continents on maps. We will also use iPads to research human and physical geographical features of these locations.

During Black History Month, we will be using pastels when producing artwork inspired by graffiti artist, Corey Barksdale. Around remembrance day, we will create multi-media artwork inspired by Paul Cummins' "The Wave".

Weekly homework will  consist of one spelling task and one times table task which will be given each Friday and should be returned to school by the following Thursday.  2 Dojos will be given for each piece of homework handed in on time.

Children are also expected to read at least 3 times a week at home. Home reads should be recorded by an adult in their reading diaries and 3 Dojos will be given to each pupil who has read 3 times each week.
